New Steam Controller With Swappable Parts Coming?

With Sony showing off their new Dualsense Controller last week it looks as if Steam are trying to make a new controller of their own. The company filed a patent for a new Steam controller with swappable parts.

The description translated says:

Described herein are, among other things, handheld controllers that include housing having one or more receiver portions for detach-ably coupling to one or more controls. For example, a housing of one such controller may include, on a front surface of the housing, a receiver that is configured to detach-ably couple to one or more joysticks, one or more D-pads, one or more track pads, one or more buttons, and/or the like. In some instances, a user may swap a first control for a second control based on a current application (e.g. game title) that the user is playing, based on comfort for the user and/or for any other reason.

The trouble the company may have is for gamers with a console already it seems a pointless purchase as both the PS4 and Xbox One controller are more than up to the job and won’t cost anything if you already have them.

The Idea of swappable parts is a good idea but with this just being a patent it might actually never happen and be produced so only time will tell on that side of things.
